Blog 7: FBI Chief seeks allies to fight cyber crime

There continues to be current global events that deal with cybercrime. An article was published today that discusses how big of a threat cybercrime really is. The FBI director, Robert Mueller, is bringing it to Internet security specialists’ attention that these cyber attacks rivals terrorism as a national security concern. Mueller discusses how technology is advancing so quickly that it is hard to “keep up.” Technology is used and is advanced all around the world thus making it very difficult to be aware and have control on everything that is happening across the Internet. Mueller makes a powerful statement that seems to be from a sociological perspective; “Maintaining a code of silence will not serve us in the long run...for it is no longer a question of  “ if” but when and how often.” This quote shows that it is important for people around the globe to know about the severity of cyber crime because there is no hiding it for long. Mueller concludes the article by saying, “We are losing money, we are losing data, we are losing ideas...Together we must find a way to stop the bleeding.” This shows that without a solution for cyber crime, the world is going to continue to go downhill and it’s going to take every country to come together to end this fight.
This global current event on crime is very significant because it discusses and points out how important it is that the severity of this crime is made aware to everyone around the world instead of trying to keep this major issue a secret. From the sociological perspective it is very important that cyber crime is made aware to the public because it needs to be known in order for the problem to be fixed. It is going to take a lot more people that are like Mueller in order to get this word out and to fight against cyber crime. As he said in his last statement, “Together we must find a way to stop the bleeding,” this is what it is going to take to decline the rates of cybercrime before it takes over and the cyber world “bleeds to death.”
