Blog 8: Toxic China: Widespread lead pollution is poisoning children

China has one of the worst track records for rampant environmental pollution with industrial materials and chemicals. recent reports out of a major manufacturing region in china has revealed that at least one hundred and sixty children have been poisoned by lead pollution released from the local factories. Much of the waste ends up in the air, which gets into the food and water supply, creating much havoc for people of the city.

According to the U.S. government's Medline plus Medical Encyclopedia, the normal range for lead in the blood is less than 20 micrograms/dL in adults. This means that some of the Chinese children tested have levels of lead in their blood that are a shocking 2,560 percent higher than what is considered "normal."

Lead problems in China are not new, back in 2007 that involved nearly one million toys. Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels cars, were found to contain dangerous levels of lead in their paint. To address the problems themselves, some Chinese residents have boycotted of companies emitting the deadly pollution.

It really seems that china's stance on pollution is profit before people. Every week there is something new on pollution on china and there is nothing for the local citizens to do about it but protest. There needs to be big governments overrule to get anywhere in china's policies. I think that this article puts up a pretty good argument. It doesn't seem very biased and it backs it up all the information with resources. I think this article makes a good argument for different policies to go into place and for citizens to make a change.
