Recently, a 40-year-old
woman was arrested in south London on suspicion of terror offenses according to
the Metropolitan Police said. Apparently in addition to being detained by
counterterrorism officers and taken to a police station for questioning, her home
is also being searched. Her arrest is suspected to have a link between an alleged
posting of extremist material on the Internet, that also has ties to crimes in
Italy. The Italian crimes involve an arrest on a 20-year-old Moroccan-born man
early in northern Italy on suspicion of planning an attack in Milan. Police
described this planned attack as an
"important preventive operation" but also said there was "a very
high risk" that the planned attack might be carried out.
It
is very disconcerting that in so many of the recent global articles I’ve read
about crime for this blog have involved an “extremist” or some form of
terrorism. In the book it mentions that with “the growth of free markets with
less government regulations has given greater opportunities for national and
international crime cartels.” This made me wonder if this new organized crime
via the internet is a new form of crime cartel. If a criminal can plan a crime
on the internet, other people (and other criminals, or terrorists etc) have basically
unlimited and unrestricted access to that information. Meaning really any one
could carry out the crime, and with virtual names and identities it would be
hard to trace. Hopefully these arrests can uncover some of these online
organizations tactics and help find a solution to stop them.

I would have to agree with you. It is unsettling to see that people conduct their organized crime on the computer and over the internet. It makes me believe that people will just keep creating ways to commit these illegal activities. I hope the arrests uncover several organizations too. This is not fair to the innocent ones.
