Blog 12: Forests and the Health of the Planet

Forest directly impacts the health of the planet. Researchers show that forest die off are increasing and this is trending and being linked to global warming. Heat and water stress is associated with climate change are making forest vulnerable to the insects attacks, fire, and other things that cause great damage to the forests. Global warming continues to grow. March of 2012 has been that warmest in history. Greenhouse gases are fueling global warming and we continue to pour massive amounts into the atmosphere. 10 billion tons of carbon is being dumped into the atmosphere every year. Wood based bio-fuels could be a competitive industry by 2020. But wood based bio-fuels question the benefits of the planet.

The earth is a very large place that needs to be taken care of by us. The forest is one of those areas that the people need to respect more and help more and more. The forests are not only a source for us as humans to live off of but also a source to the animals that need the forest to survive and be able to get their food. By cutting out the forest with the more demands that seem to keep coming up the earth cannot response as quickly. Without replacing what we have used by planting new trees the areas will no one longer be the same and it will take longer for the areas to grow back. Using wood as a fuel can be done and is being done. People in third world countries use the fuel all the time. But if it is used by more and more people the greenhouse gases and climate change will become increased.
