Blog #12: International Justice Mission to Open Third Philippine Field Office to Combat Human Trafficking

On April 12th, the International Justice Mission (IJM) celebrated 15 years of commitment to reducing availability of children for sex and human trafficking.  They hope to reduce the rate by 40 percent by 2015.  IJM is a human rights agency that secures rescue victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression (PR Newswire).  The agency is opening its 15th field office in Pampanga and the third field office in the Philippines.  Pampanga is suspected as an ideal haven for human trafficking operations to take place as well as child pornography.  Kaign Christy will serve as IJM Pampanga’s new field officer director.  New offices opening in June are linked to a September 2011 initiative named “Preventing and Reducing Trafficking with a Proven Model”.  This model will include a lot of partnerships in efforts to gain supports and help rescued victims.  They are currently working to reduce the availability thus the trafficking rates.
IJM serves as a human rights agency to provide assistance to help prevent a violation of human rights.  Agencies, such as this, link to international ties and relationships.  Human trafficking rates in this are could very much stay the same or even increase without the efforts of others.   In 2011, IJM helped 2, 473 children, women and men who were subject to human trafficking, sex exploitation or labor exploitation.  Human rights agencies are added to show how international and different group ties affect outcomes and results.  Because concerned people and parties have realized the existence of a specific issue, they are not there to help others, showing how relationships can form around the world.
