Blog #13: Cybercrime on the Rise

This week I came across an article discussing cybercrime and the effects and protection strategies for companies and businesses. This article is titled “Cybercrime on the Rise” and was written by Ronnie L. Williams. At the beginning of the article, Williams discusses how cybercrime is increasing due to the high use of Internet in businesses. Williams states: “With more and more companies relying on the Internet to do business, the frequency of cybercrime is certain to increase.” As the frequency of cybercrime increases, the more need for protective software and strategies are going to arise. “Cyber crooks” are constantly coming up with new schemes. At the end of the article it discusses the importance of protection against cyber attacks and ways to do this. Williams states, “Having a cyber-risk-aware culture at your company could be the difference between being a rich prince or a ruined pauper. It is important for companies to take the steps towards having a cyber-risk-aware business.
This current event is significant because it shows that cybercrime is a major problem, especially for businesses, and that there is a way to protect individuals and businesses from cyber attacks. Cybercrime is constantly happening all around the world and it is important that all businesses around the world are taking precautions for cyber attacks. William states, “As the cyber attacks increase in frequency and sophistication, the efforts to stop the attacks will have to evolve and adapt to meet the challenge.” This shows that businesses and companies all around the world need to be aware of the high frequencies in which cyber attacks occur and respond by taking the appropriate preacutions. If businesses don’t take these precautions then cybercrime is going to be the main cause of businesses going under.
