Blog 7,Women in China Face Rising University Entry Barriers, 10/11/12

A growing trend in Chinese universities is causing protest by angering women. This trend is the fact that women have to score higher than men to get in universities. Xiong Jing and her two friends shaved their heads in Beijing to protest against this trend. The practices of inequality are claimed to be in national interest by the education ministry. Only about twenty women in China and a couple of men shaved their heads in protest of this practice. Women artist that shaved their heads in protest for greater women rights inspired this. The universities decline that there are any gender inequalities towards women or gender favors towards men. It is not yet known, when exactly these unfair moves begun, but it is known that they are now very implemented.
Gender inequality is an issue that has been going for centuries and is struggling to become resolved. One of the Millennium Development Goals created by the United Nations is to promote gender equality and empower women. This goal is set to reach by 2015 for all education levels. Women are known for having lack of benefits and security due to their lack of education and ability to have an actual, decent paying, stable job. Top-level jobs are going to men instead of women showing unfairness between the two genders. This practice of having women score higher than men to get into universities is showing that gender inequality still exists and is staying strong. Women in China have to try harder than men to enroll in a university demonstrating that there is injustice between the genders. This is causing more difficulty to actually meet the goal to promote gender inequality and empower women by the year of 2015.
