Current Event #1 Use of Technology to help track the flu

According to Heather Kelly on her article "Tracking the flu with technology and Twitter", states that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and researchers at Johns Hopkins University found a method for filtering tweets to track down words related to getting or having the flu. There are other groups that are also working to making a program with similar intentions but for finding different diseases. These projects are not as too accurate to the numbers of outbreak, but will give a general idea of how serious it is in that certain area. Also the technology and the programs that run it also filters subjects that aren't related to what is needed to be recorded. A similar example to what they gave is the use of the word sick in this next sentence. Man you have a sick ride there my friend. The program captures certain words, but the researchers are still working on making it to leave out these tweets or post on social media.

I strongly agree with this article that the use of technology and social media will help with awareness's with not only diseases, but with other events that might raise awareness to the society. Technology is always changing and getting better to provide more assistance to the humankind. With this new technology I believe that chances of getting sick or catching anything would be reduced, but this might also mean that the diseases will learn to change and adapt to becoming stronger. It is inevitable to not getting sick or catching a certain disease. So with this advancement in technology, medical science needs to advance to react to new strands for diseases.
