Blog 2: Funding the Future Tackling disease in Africa

The article by Andrew Green describes the importance of funding projects in order to save a life. Malaria is one type of diseases that is hard to cure, a vaccine has been made name RTS, S, which was not very promising.  Green states that this vaccine only, “protected about one-third of infants between six and 12 weeks – failing the criteria set by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be deemed viable.” If these developing countries have the right funding to help start a Pharmaceutical trial vaccines could become available. These organizations failed to meet the needs of the poor based on the funding in which they would receive. A program has been started named Drugs of Neglected Diseases initiate in which helps in research of drugs for malaria. This program was a success but in order to implanted more awareness the Advanced Market Committee (AMC) was created.  The AMC was created to help countries in their trial for vaccines and push forward vaccines to these nations. AMC then started the pilot project,” The pilot project is on track to prevent more than 1.5 million childhood deaths by 2020. The idea was to test “whether the technical features of the original academic concepts of an AMC could be realized in practice”. In all the AMC is made to help Africa and other developing countries gain research and new vaccines on Malaria and other diseases that are killing their children daily.
Africa and many other countries are struggling with the funding of health care and vaccines. Many people could be cure or healthy if we provide funding to these nations. It really breaks my heart that many kids today are affected by this disease called Malaria. Starting more research like the AMC will help with the improvement of health around the nations. Green brings insight into the world of pharmaceutical and how it impacts individuals everyday. Pharmaceutical help bring new research on cures to diseases that could save a person life. If we start to look at other developing countries compare to the US we have it good. Yes, many of us are without healthcare to this day! In Africa many children are dying due to the lack of funds for Pharmaceutical practices.
