Violence Against Women in India

From the aftermath of gang rape, the attention of crimes like sexual violence, domestic violence, and female infanticide against women in New Delhi and India is becoming a major concern. A phenomenon of dowry has history with India’s tradition. Dowry is money, goods, or estate that a woman brings to her husband in marriage. It’s a form of protection of the wife against ill treatment of by her husband. This helps the husband dismiss his responsibilities in marriage. Dowry has prompted many wives to become victims of murder by their husbands. They called it bride burning or dowry deaths. Researchers have estimated that about 250,000 to 100,000 women a year are killed over dowry disputes. In recent decades, India women have advanced and became leaders that have resulted in so much tension and discrimination towards them. The women are becoming successful while men fail to uphold power and wealth so they attack.

I respect that people should live traditionally lives but not to an extent where they losing their lives. The women in India face so many dangers against the men. I believe that some form of justice or protection law should be enforced to help these women live without fear or hatred amongst their family and in-laws. I don’t care about the patriarchal society or the rank in which women fall under. They should receive proper nutritional care during their childhood and pregnancy, young girls should be treated nicely and not forced to marry young, equal access to health care should be provided to check for any potential health risk. The beating on a woman should never be accepted and if so men should face jail time for punishment. Every wife, mother, and daughter in India should have an opportunity to do anything in life they stride to do.
