Hate Crimes in the UK

According to this article, the UK cops arrest two over an  assault on a teenager .This teenager describe himself to be  an “emo” in which the article define  as being short term  for emotive or emotional. This emotion refers to an introspective style of music between punk and grunge. This hasn’t been the first incident of hate crime in UK; in fact the police have been keeping a record of attacks on subculture members. The police force in the UK plans to treat these attacks on Goth and emo groups in the same way in the same way as crimes based on race, religion, disability or sexual orientation. The teen was injured several times in this case and it has reported as an alternative subculture hate crime. The England prosecutors see this crime as a criminal offense motivated by hate of others and is determined to take positive action for offenders.

This article is flawed in the sense that it didn’t provide any information predicting what the criminals sentencing or repercussions will be for acting on a hateful crime. No justice being served to the victims’ families and to set an example for the ones that commit these crimes brings other to suffer from anxiety and sometimes suicidal thoughts.Government officials and people in society should tackle these problems and take them serious because these crimes will keep reoccurring taking out innocent people in the world. Reflected back to a previous lecture, people that label themselves emos or Goths or Jews should have that radical choice to be   the unique individuals they are and live as they please in society without being hated on.

Sex Crimes against Women and Children

This article was released from a recent report by Save the Children, an independent   organization promoting children right in developing countries. Save the Children urged action by claiming that most rape and sexual abuse victims in many of the world's conflict zones were children. Save the Children's Chief Executive Justin Forsyth credits that “sexual violence is one of the hidden horrors of war and the damage it wreaks ruins lives.”  Syrians who have crossed the border since the war began in March 2011.People in several countries  including Colombia, Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo and Syria are crossing borders since the war has begin mainly to the flee from the fear of rape. Which brings me to another article related to topic reported from the star.com world news; Syrian women tell testimonies of horrific rapes by government officials and guards they encountered in detention centers. This act of sexual violence against all women brings shame and rejection from their family and country.

This article is flawed in the sense that it couldn’t provide evidence of documentation from all these acts of rape so it makes the women credibility look untrustworthy. From the article I read on Syrian women, it claims that few women and girls are willing to admit they were raped in Syria’s civil war. They believe being silent will protect them and make things go back to normal but justice should be appointed to all victims of rape. Speaking about it raise awareness and bring hope for the next victim living in silence. Save the children charity clarify that programs initiated   to help children who are victims of sexual crimes in war zones and post-conflict regions were massively underfunded. This issue could be resolved easily in any country if police would do their jobs to keep community safe and reduce crime, health workers will treat the victims and wealthier officials or countries will contribute money.

Attacks on Elderly Armenian Women in Turkey Awakens Fear

According to the article, a man in Istanbul attacked, strangled and beat an elderly woman   brutally almost to death. He robbed her and left her bruised and blinded in one eye. This has been the first string of attacks in the last few months on elderly Armenian women in Samatya, Istanbul’s historic Armenian quarter. In recent years, Turkey has tend to become more accommodating toward its minorities but this attack in Samatya has left residents afraid to leave doors unlock and are living in fear. Robert Koptas, the the editor of Agos, an Armenian newspaper has covered the issues of several attacks explaining that they (Armenians) were always regarded as foreigners, as second-class citizens. The article states that Armenians and other minorities were once widely discriminated against in Turkey, escalating   to violent attacks by nationalists and shut out from the army officer corps.

A downside to this article was that it provides a synopsis about Armenian people living in fear but refuse to give details about what happened in the past to bring about so much animosity against Armenian people. The article mentioned that the  recent violence has recalled a tortured past and hinted at future tensions as Turkey prepares to face the 100th anniversary of the genocide of its Armenian population in the last years of the Ottoman Empire. Despite the past, the article mentioned a good review about issues that have improved bought by Turkey’s effort to join the European and reform the community. The country is questioning the anniversary that’s coming up and wondering will the outcome of it reconcile this issue or create more tension. This article makes me believe that the Armenian people will decrease their fear and stand up in harmony to face the Turkey government and citizens. They should protest for a more democratic government which will enforce laws and improve their role advancement as first class citizens instead of foreigners being victimized .Armenians deserve a sense of security and equality while living in Samatya.

A Political Crime

According to this article, French former president, Nicolas Sarcoxie has been placed under investigation for abusing funds in a 2007 party funding case involving elderly L’Oreal heiress Lillian Bettencourt. Under the French law he is just being accused of a crime. If found guilty Sarkozy faces a maximum three-year jail sentence and a huge fine. Investigation being to occur after an accountant came to the forefront, allegedly saying that a large cash withdrawal was allocated from Sarkozy's presidential election campaign. Since then she has suffered from dementia and under guardianship. While other cases against him like submarines sales and spending on opinion polls have surfaced, lawyers demand him to explain but Nicolas plans to appeal. Having fear of damaging his political career, Sarkozy plans to reverse the situation and enlighten a magazine company on a tip to fix the economy so it can promote his next campaign in 2017.

The article is flawed in the sense because it does not provide actual proof of crime Sarkozy committed. This could be a case which rose from inequality due to sexism issues in their workplace and the woman blamed Sarkozy of taking funds when she could have been removing money from the campaign to become richer. Political crime are non-conventional crimes resulted from political disturbances. It seems like everyone wants to attack Sarkozy and make him look to take away his political order. The media acts just like a socializing agency reporting news ineffectively during campaign times to pose politicians as a threat to political authority because one may disagree with his views or ideas. Political crimes could be stopped if people stop challenging the power of governance and worrying about a title instead join teams with another.

Baby Murdered in China

This article is reported out of China, where a baby was found murdered in a car. A man confessed to stealing the car and strangling the child. He buried the corpse in snow. This prompted a wave of reaction on the internet in China. An extensive manhunt was lead as an attempt to find the baby and the community came together for a candlelit vigil. There were many mixed emotions from sympathy to angry debaters about this crime.Parenting, capital punishment and media censorship was the main topics highlighted in this article.

The report points out how the people used blogging websites to debate about whether the parents should be partially responsible for losing their child and the killer should be executed. The parents should be punished for neglect of child and the man should be put away from society but not capital punishment. Automobiles dealerships used the lost baby picture to advertise their GPS product as a way to guarantee peace of mind to their customers. The government was blame also for having strict laws that makes life intense in China. As mentioned in class and on the last discussion board, the media influence and use propaganda to instruct criminals to commit crime in my perspective. According to official statistics, China's homicide rate is 0.8 cases per 100,000 people that are among the lowest in the world. A sociology professor in Beijing believes that
Widespread desperation is caused by China's growing wealth gap, rampant corruption and environmental degradation which are raising crime. Many social conflicts arise everyday but unless people in China restore to equality, peace and unity, the division of power and conflict will threatened their country forever.

Organized Crime

In Vancouver Canada, at immigration hearing it’s been revealed that Lai Tong Sang, the purported leader of Macau's notorious Shui Fong, or Water Room gang has ties to organized crime. In Macau, dated back seventeen years ago, the gangs were battling in war with shootings against each other. Through several tips and investigations because of threats made towards Lia, the police search his house and found evidence that he was involved in criminal activity ranging from money laundering to prostitution, the drug trade and human smuggling. When news broke in1997, Lai fled to Canada to gain immigration status where he begun a new life with his family.

This article is flawed in the sense that the hearing consisted of one or the same sources testifying against Lia Tong Sang which questions their allegations. From my perspective they could be just conspiring to get revenge and take him down. Those activities as mention above are still ongoing and global problems. There are laws and organizations created to decrease crime in drug trading, prostitution and money laundering but people still desire to engage in that illegal activities. The government, media, people who have changes their lifestyle in the drug and prostitution ring try to bring awareness to these issues but organized crime is a highly centralized enterprise that has power and money. In the report, Patrick Fogarty, the former superintendent of the Co-ordinate Law Enforcement Unit in Vancouver testified by saying, “Nobody knows the underworld like the underworld.”Organized crimes have history associated with people   like Al Capone. They work together in crimes resulting in a steadily rise of global criminal organization. If the US and other countries unite maybe they can bring down some of these criminals to eliminate crime.
