Blog 4: Childhood Cancer in Developing Nations

In this article provided by Lancet states the significant increase in cancer patients in developing countries. Children are at high risk for death due to the lack of medicine and health care. Developing countries has majority of children and also hold the risk of early death rates. Developing countries are low in income and wealth which causes them not to provide adequate health care to their citizens. Children who have cancer  could be prevented or cured from it if they had treatments. Many doctors in developing countries do not have the training or knowledge on cancer which cause many children to die. Lancet states,” In Africa, for instance, the proportion of cancers that occur in children is roughly 12 times higher than in Europe, but 80% of people in Africa have no access to radiotherapy, cancer surgery, or the infrastructure needed to deliver basic cancer care.”  This shows why many are dying due to the lack of equipment. This could turn around only if politicians take a stand and develop more awareness of cancer deaths.  Twinning companies can provide knowledge on healthcare, access to update treatments, and mentoring. Cancer deaths can decrease if politicians take a stand and access more funds and knowledge on health care.
After reviewing this article many developing nations are at a standstill due to the lack of technology. Technology is a big role in today’s society it helps saves lives, and provides people with everyday living. Developing countries are at its worse due to its government if politicians take notice on what’s going on many people could be alive today. Children are a key to society it helps build a nation socially and economically. If developing countries seek help and provide more knowledge on health care this could help not only save a life but help society as well.
