This article is based on hatred or discrimination against Jews in France. Three Tottenham fans were injured in an antisemitic attack before Europe League tie in Lyon at an English pub. The article explains other incidents where Jews were victims of their attributed religion/ethnicity at night bars. According to the article, the policemen reported 22 antisemitic acts in the last year. The Jewish Community Protection Service (SPCJ) called the incidents “a year of unprecedented violence against Jews in France.”The local media has been relaying comments and given descriptions of the gang that been attacking Jews. The UK officials are also trying to keep the Lyon fans secure by traveling around with them. It seems like this violence and hate crime will continue until these people are punished for their acts.
This article lack to
explain what government officials of France are planning to do about the crime
against the Jews and if arrest will be made. The article made me feel like the
bars are threats of mayhem to whoever that walks in looking like Jews or maybe
the owners provoke the gangs to come there and destroy the place. They should
consider putting them out of business to see if the violence would continue.
While France has a record for racial discrimination, there are many laws and
policies enforced to eliminate racial discrimination on any bases. Under France
constitution and the Penal Code of 1994, a person should be penal sanctions for
acts like racial discrimination, showing hatred of ones ethnicity and public
defamation on religious background. This article brings me back to our
last class discussion of gender equality
and gay rights in society because France state party believe that their country
has no ethnic, religious or
linguistic minorities that are experiencing discrimination, however all these
hate crimes are occurring and people are being injured. They have laws to
prohibit these acts but fail to acknowledge it’s an issue while some countries
and states want legalize their individuals to have an equal rights to practice
their religion or enjoy their culture peacefully.
