An interview between Marcus Mabry and Jane Perlez, a
diplomatic correspondent was conducted on March 5th that discusses
China’s challenging relations with the world. As we know, China has been
struggling with their relation with the United States after a reported computer
hacking scam presented in February. As Marcus Mabry, from the New York Times,
explains how China may be the 2nd largest economy in the world, but
is having international dilemmas revolving around hacking and territorial
disputes.
“From the American point of view we see China as a treat”,
say Mabry (the best resent example being China’s hacking claims). He presents a
question of whether or not China should be considered rival. Perlez states that
they see them self as confident. Despite all the problems there are such a
confidence within their Chinese government relating to global powers and feel
the will catch up to America’s economy soon.
There are responsibilities that as a world power should be
upheld, such as maintaining a world peace. So what do the Chinese see as their
role? According to Perlez the Chinese have played by the ‘global rules’ and feel
that the United States caused the economic turmoil in the last couple years as
well as caused the economic down turn in 2008. But China, in their eyes, has
remained ‘behaved’ and ‘stable.’
Of course, China has their own internal problems with rural
and urban China, yet, they feel that a change to China is unnecessary; in other
words, a change in communism is not needed. In my opinion it’s difficult to say whether or
not China will keep the peace with the United States and other countries.
According to the Chinese, they are doing everything they can to keep peace, but
maybe what needs to be the focus of attention with the international global
system is redefining what the definition of ‘global peace.’
