Blog 10: Cellphones Providing Information to Sierra Leoneans

The use of cell phone technology is going to make a difference in the lives of the Sierra Leoneans. The Red Cross and the telecommunication industry are going to work to together to make the vision of saving lives of Sierra Leoneans a reality. This program was launched on April 15, 2013. “The goal that the Red Cross and Airtel has set is to reach one million Sierra Leoneans in the first month, by providing information on diseases outbreaks and other emergencies.” “Malaria was the disease that made them want to purse this program because in Serra Leone alone sixteen thousand people a year loss there life from lack of knowledge of this preventable disease.” “The Trilogy Emergency Relief Application also known as TERA is a system that is used to notify people, and this is a unique system because it can access people that are in need after an emergency and respond to request.” “Sierra Lone is the second country in the world that has launched the TERA SMS system, and their hope is to bring down the fatalities from preventable diseases.”
In class I learned that to prevent a lot of disease in the world people need to be educated about them. The Red Cross and telecommunication, TERA, and Airtel have come up with a way to use cell phone technology to communicate with the people of Sierra Leone. TERA is a great system that is going to be able to access the need of the people, and provide the help that the people need. Especially in an area were it is hard to communicate with the people, and they will be able to provide information that is going to save and educate the people. Also I did not realizes that “Malaria was such a big issue in Sierra Leone were it kills sixteen thousand people a year.” I hope that this system will bring down all these deaths Sierra Leone.

It's nearly impossible to find experienced people in this particular subject, however, you seem like you know what you're talking about!
