A recent article by Michael R. Gordon, of the New York Times, highlighted talks Secretary of State John Kerry recommending that Kim Jong-un not issue the test firing of North Korea’s Musudan missile and underscored that his nation would be defeated if conflict breaks out.

What is significant about the Musudan missile is that it has a range of up to 2,500 miles. This puts into reach Japan, Guam, and South Korea. The alert of the preparation for the missile test came from South Korean officials. The tests could happen at any time. If Jong-un commences the missile test, he will be disrespecting the international community.

This article illustrates how Kim Jong-un is building his authority up at home, while disregarding the international community. Much like an aristocracy, Kim Jong-un wants the survival of North Korea to be based on the survival of the Kim legacy. Perhaps there is too much propaganda towards North Korea by the media, even though nuclear missile testing is a concerning issue, the likelihood of North Korea going to war with the United States would not be advantageous. This couldn’t really even be considered a cold war, as North Korea’s capabilities do not compare to U.S. and Chinese military capabilities.
