Blog 9:Finally getting the Fundamentals to Health Care in Africa

Coleman states how Africa out of many developing countries lack the required fundamentals for health care to grow. Many people in Africa are struggling to get adequate healthcare from their state, due to not having the fundamental background in health care. The fundamentals that Coleman states are,” Africa we must first tackle the most basic elements of any health system: logistics, maintenance, local skills and communications.” These are many things that Africa is lacking in which stops them from forming health care. Technology is now available to Africa but without the background and support this would not help at all. The lack of medicine and transportation to health clinics caused great concerns in Africa. One of many things needed in Africa is, “renewed emphasis on improved surveillance and the prevention and control of high blood pressure and stroke in Africa is needed’.” Without the surveillance and prevention factor high blood pressure will remain at its highest in Africa. Africa lacks the building blocks to health care. They have the technology but lack the required workers, transportation, and medicines needed. Coleman also states,” Six-out-of-ten people in sub-Saharan Africa live in rural communities. Often these communities lack regular access to electricity or fuel.” This is also a caused to many health concerns that can develop. If we start from the bottom in fixing electricity and fuel then we can have a better step in fixing health care. Money is being used in the wrong direction to improve Africa health care we need to build on solid grounds first then work our way up in order to improve health care in Africa.
After reading this article I could understand now how health care remain at its lowest in Africa. We are not starting from the bottom instead we are trying to create Africa to adapt to newer technology and societies innovation. We need to help them with resources that they will need. Africa can improve it's health care system if we start from the littlest things like transportation, health care providers, and better stable environment. This article shows me a better understanding of helping developing nations survived.
