Opium Trade Could Be Relevant to Terrorist Activity

The United Nations reports that the increase in the opium trade in Afghanistan could point to more terrorist attacks in the future. It has been proven that the revenue from drug trafficking in Afghanistan has been used to fuel the efforts of the Taliban. Opium makes up a staggering one-third of the nations economy, which means that the task of eliminating the drug trade is a very difficult and almost impossible one to execute. Projects have been comprized to provide farmers in Central and Norther Afghanistan with incentives to grow legal crops and make a lawful living.
