Israel Allows Some Supplies Into Gaza

Gaza had been experiencing electricity and fuel shortages and was a few days away from a food and health crisis. Luckily, on Monday night the Israeli defense minister announced he would be removing some restrictions previously placed on Gaza. And on Tuesday morning there would be a truck arriving to deliver a week’s supply of diesel fuel and fifty trucks full of food and medical supplies. The supply shortage was due to the defense minister closing all crossings into Gaza after rocket fire was used against Israel. The attack was said to be by a large militant group called the Hamas. This attack was a week ago and supplies had been cut off ever since. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency has been helping Palestinian refugees for some time now, but said they would have to quit giving aid to the 860,000 residents of Gaza if the crossing weren’t opened soon. They are running out if bags to out the various supplies into, and only have enough fuel to run their trucks for a few more days. Gaza’s situation was becoming so intense that Egypt sent in thirteen aid trucks on Tuesday as well. Israel won’t admit to the severity of the closed crossing and says that their people are exaggerating. Their final word was to send in diesel for generators to be used at hospitals and as cooking gas, but gasoline for private cars would not be supplied. Now, I understand that it must be extremely hard to regulate a large rebellious group but there is no need to punish an entire area of that country. Not everyone located on the Gaza strip is associated with the Hamas and their beliefs. And the government shutting off food and supplies to needy people won’t stop the Hamas and their efforts. If they are determined to take down the Israeli government they will find other ways of stocking up supplies.
