Approaching peace in Kenya

Mark Moon / 2.8.08 / 10:48 AM / Ethnic Conflict - Article 4

Over a month after the violence erupted in Kenya, Annan is hopeful for a peaceful resolution in the coming week. Currently, over 300,000 Kenyans are homeless, and more than 1000 people have been killed in the ethnic violence sweeping Kenya following the disputed December election. While there is no power sharing agreement worked out, there have been major steps forward in reaching an amiable solution for both parties.
After following this story, I look for more violence to erupt when the agreement is worked out. One side or the other is likely to feel cheated, leading to even more widespread violence against the other party. My hope is that Annan and others involved will be able to find a solution that both parties feel is equitable.
