Microsoft helps nab $900M piracy ring

Erin Norris/February 10, 2008/10:22/technology

In 2001 Microsoft began searching for people around the world who were using knock offs of their product causing unsuspecting consumers to suffer many viruses to their computers. Los Angeles was caught w/ $100 million worth of illegal software. After that Microsoft began searching in over 22 countries trying to catch more of this piracy.
With the help of local law enforcement Microsoft collected 900 million dollars worth of software from these countries including Taiwan.

I think that this is a great accomplishment for the company and I cant imagine how much of an increase in income this will bring to the company because people cannot get the fake product. Also though the article mentioned that there were alot of counterfeiters who would actually create holograms of some sort that would make it even more difficult to track the product. This just shows I think that there is no way to stop piracy completely but I also think that it is worth a try to accomplish what you can and for Microsoft I think that they succeeded.
