Brazil's Endangered List

Brazil's new list of endangered animals species has increased dramatically since twenty years. The main cause for these endangered animals going extinct? Development and deforestation. 489 species were included in this list, including the blue whale and the albatross, as well as an uru (some sort of chicken). The last list, made in 1989, had 218 species. On the bright side, 79 species were removed from the list as they were deemed "not in peril." The Environmental Minister is currently working to slow down deforestation in the Amazon, and he is trying to stop the trafficking of illegal animals, another reason for the increase in the list.
When you have 489 species on a list as notorious as this that says a lot about the harmful potential of industry and its adverse effects. The crusade to save the world is too idealistic--if we want to save the endangered species we need to do a little soul searching. We need to decrease our demand; otherwise, our words will have no substance behind them.
