High Food Prices and Unemployment Fuel the Growth of Poverty

Ashley Tyner

The rise in the cost of food and other essential commodities is the biggest cause of concern for Kenyan households today. For the month of October, there are no signs for this to change. 46% of sampled Kenyans interviewed said they were economically worse off today than they were a year ago. The worsening living standards over the last year have been fueled by higher food prices and rising rates of unemployment, increased incidents of poverty and insecurity as well as punitive taxes and a scarcity of essential commodities.

I sort of got the point of the article. It seems as if the US is not the only one facing these problems. It is just that the US has not dealt with these issues in years. It seems that it takes a problem in the US for us to see that the same problem is also in other countries.
