Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebar had an opportunity to speak with both United States presidential candidates, and is pleased with what took place. Both democratic nominee Barack Obama and republican candidate John McCain gave comforting messages about the future. They both vowed not to stop pushing democratic success for the country. “He is a member of the commission that is studying the signing of an agreement that would permit US troops to remain in Iraq for a term starting on 1 January 2009, and he hopes the negotiation will be successful because ‘their immediate departure would entail serious consequences.’” Any future endeavors will be with the support of the Iraq government. Zebar is quoted as saying, “We will remember Bush as the person who gave us the opportunity to have a democracy.” The Iraqi military is still gaining control and the government is continuing to sharpen its edges. I think that this is a great article that brings a positive outlook into the status of Iraq. I think that a new leader for the United States promises to strengthen the success of Iraq as a democratic nation. I think that there is still a lot to be done, but everyday the dependence of Iraq on the United States lessens. I hope that all will end well. It has been such a struggle for things to crumble, but I think that with just a little more time and extra sensitive care that things will be positive and better for both the United States and Iraq.
