This article is about the Philippines. Currently in the Philippines there is a developing Asian economy headed by a female president. They are now ranked sixth out of 130 countries in the world in terms of narrowing the gender gap between men and women. The report examines the gap between men and women in four categories: political empowerment, health, survival, education, and economic participation and opportunity. The Philippines is the highest-ranked Asian country. The report also stated that the Philippines are only one of two countries in Asia that have closed the gap on education and health. This means that they are one of only eleven countries that did that. Although, there was a slight fall in the report from 2007 to 2008 due to wage equality and women ministers. I am very amazed at what this article is speaking about. I never would have thought that Asian countries would be at the top of the rankings when it comes to gender-gaps. That could come from people always hearing about China and the fact that they have female infanticide, and that most families only want males in their family. This is a very big achievement for the women in the Philippines. Even the United States is not even in the top seven rankings. You would think that the ‘free world’ would at least be in the top five if not even number one. The fact that developing countries are so far ahead of us is still a mystery to me.
