As I've mentioned in earlier posts, "violence in Afghanistan has intensified this year to its highest level since the 2001 U.S.-led invasion," says reporter VOA News who has been following these attacks very well. U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan say troops have killed four militants linked to al-Qaida. These militants were killed during a raid on Thursday (Nov. 13) in the eastern region, near the border of Pakistan. The statement says the operation was targeting a network of militants who were bringing Arab and other foreign fighters into Afghanistan. Also on Thursday, Taliban militants bombed a car (by a driver suicide bomber in another vehicle) in eastern Afghanistan that killed at least 11 people, including a U.S. soldier and left seventy-four others wounded. We are now getting notice that this intense violence that has been occurring primarily in the eastern and western regions of Afghanistan is now happening in the Northern and Southern regions as well. This rise in violence could mean an end is near (considering that the U.S. military has been attacking found al-Qaida hideouts) however with the increasing violence of the Taliban as well, it's likely that this game of back and forth could last much longer.
