Salmonella Outbreak

There has been a peanut butter and peanut paste recall in the United States because of a salmonella outbreak. This outbreak has caused 486 people to get sick throughout 43 states. Prepackage peanut butter sandwich crackers, made by Keebler and Kellogg Company's Austin, were two brands noted, that caused several people to get sick. The peanut butter was made by Peanut Corporation of America, which is located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Other states, such as Minnesota, Connecticut, and Georgia, found traces of salmonella in the containers that were open with Peanut Corporation's peanut butter in them. This type of peanut butter and paste is highly known because it is dispensed out daily to schools, nursing homes, and other large institutions. Even stores such as PetSmart are not distributing certain dog biscuits that contain peanut butter because of the reliability that it may cause. There have not been any instances where dogs have been harmed from this product, but to be on the safe side, the product has been removed from the stores.
Tests are still being ran at the Blakely, Georgia plant, where salmonella was actually found on the floor. While these tests are in progress, the Peanut Corporation has recalled all of its peanut butter and peanut paste that is made with roasted or ground peanuts.

Salmonella has been one of the most current diseases in the United States. Before reading this article I didn't know that salmonella could be found in peanut butter. The information that I got from this article was really scary because I like peanut butter crackers and I think that this has turned me away from them. I didn't think that one outbreak could hurts so many poeple in such a short period of time. I wonder how long will it take for it to be safe to eat peanut butter again. This article was informative and it makes me want to keep up with the Salmonella outbreak to see what the outcome will be.

Salmonella outbreak is really alarming. It can put our health on risk so it is better to be meticulous in all the food that we eat.

We can also test whether a food has a salmonella or not, and that is through the use of ELISA kits.
