In Mexico City, Mexico three doctors and a nurse have been arrested for allegedly selling newborn babies. The mothers of these babies were told that they had died after birth, in a private hospital located in Mexico City. This scheme was uncovered after one of the mothers found out that her baby was indeed alive. Her baby had been sold for 15,000 pesos or $1,130. This woman gave birth at the Central West Hospital via cesarean section in October 2008. She told authorities she heard her baby cry after birth was denied holding the child and was later told it died and was cremated. This woman came to learn his information from an email sent by the son of the hospital director, allegedly. The woman accused of buying the infant was arrested and a receptionist is also in custody. Another couple has also been arrested for allegedly paying the hospital to falsify a birth certificate, for an infant they had been five. Authorities believe this group has sold several newborn babies; it is unknown exactly how many. They face charges of trafficking in minors, organized crime and falsifying documents. Mexico is a large source of human trafficking of woman and children, being sold into sex exploitation. The number on convictions against human trafficking are rare, there were no convictions in 2008.
I honestly don’t know what is wrong with people. Since when was stealing babies okay? Who gave them the right to take someone’s child and just give it to someone else? I feel the same way about this article, as my last one; which is directly related. There are plenty of children out there to adopt, stop stealing these children and selling them. What really got me was the where they told the woman her child had died and they cremated it. Last time I checked it was up to the family to decide what happens to the body, not the hospital. This is absolutely crazy and sad. Innocent mothers are being torn away from their newborns right at birth and they never see their child again. Also, if human trafficking is such a problem obviously people need to be convicted. I don’t understand why the number of convictions is low, well most likely because they people aren’t being caught. Obviously more needs to be done, these people need to be caught and convicted.

Wow... I think my heart just cracked. This is a totally disgusting article. I thought what we covered in class was crazy and sad, but nothing compares to what this hospital did/does. I agree with you that more has to be done about human trafficking. This is unmoral and disturbing.
This is sick and disturbing news. Especially since the story never tells why but insinuate that it may have something to do with sex exploitation. They are newborns for crying out loud. I see how this is human trafficking but newborns cant do anything so what is the reason? The only things I can think of is so that women who cannot adopt can have children. I hope everyone who is in on it is busted! Telling women that there children died at birth is ridiculous because there are plenty of women who give there children up freely and people can legally obtain children who are looking for a home. Since when is the cost of a human life around a thousand dollars. Pricing people is just like throwing these children on the auction block. Are Mexican Children so worthless they just sell them off? This is horrible news!
