Journalists murders in Mexico hit new record

Bladimir Antuna was a local newspaper reporter, who reported crime for a local newspaper in Durango City, Mexico. On Monday morning, like any other morning, Antuna kissed his family goodbye and drove to work. Hours later his was found beaten, strangled and dumped outside of a local hospital. A message on a piece of cardboard read “This is what happened to me for giving information to the military and writing what I shouldn't. Take care of your texts before you do your story”. This is a very sad story that is becoming more and more common in Mexico. According to officials in Mexico, 2009 has been the worst year for reporters, photographers and editors; at least twelve already, which is two more than in the previous worst year 2006. Majority of them have been killed due to the relentless drug war. Like all other stories that I have read, this one too saddened me. I cannot believe that someone would kill an innocent man trying to make an honest believe. I really do not know what the suspects in these situations are thinking. Why would anyone do that? Antuna had a wife and kids. Now his wife has no husband and his kids do not have a father. Something needs to be done to stop these people from committing these horrible crimes.

This is horrible. These people are just doing their jobs, what they are paid to do on a regular basis. They have no bad intentions at all and they're killed because they write about what is really happening in Mexico. That's truly horrifying.
