African health workers are now in fear that the days when the AIDS virus was a death sentence in Africa. There is also fear that a major global distributer of AIDS money was considering cutting back worldwide. At the news conference in South Africa it was said that clinics that are funded by international doctors in Uganda are being told not to take on new patients. According to the United Nations’ AIDS agency South Africa has the world’s largest number of HIV cases with 5.7 million people infected by the virus. A spokes person for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria said “despite the challenging financial times, there is no interruption in any funding whatsoever”. Public health specialist Philip Stevens said “the emphasis might not be on preventing rather than treating AIDS in the poorest countries. And even when funding for treatment was needed, middle income countries should not rely on the largeness of wealth industrialized nations”. One worked at a hospital said that in 1997 when they first started working there was only enough money for the funding for AIDS education and counseling and many people were dying of AIDS. According to Olesi Ellemani Pasulani the clinic started providing AIDS treatment drugs with Global Fund money in 2003 and by 2007 they were able to get them to everyone in his area what they needed which was about 18,000 patients. “We have seen patients who were bedridden going back to their lives. Let us be there for them now and forever” said Pasulani.
There is currently talk over where to put most of the money that they are able to get for AIDS health. The choice is between treatment and prevention; however savings could be made in areas such as the cost of the drugs. This has to be a hard decision for these people to make. If they choose to put more of the money toward prevention of AIDS what happens to the millions of people who are already infected with the virus.

AIDS is a disease that needs to be researched and ultimately contained but it will take everyone doing their part to help the world. We all need to band together and help by volunteering.
