25 years ago a British journalist was kidnapped by Palestinian militants in Lebanon. But today a body was found and it is claimed to be the British journalist, Alec Collett. Collett was a free lance journalist commissioned by the UN Relief and Works Agency. He was sent to write about refugee camps in Palestine. While at the Beirut airport, he was abducted at gun point; at the age of 64. His driver was also taken, but later released. This kidnapping happened on March 25, 1985 during the height of the civil war. During this time a lot of foreigners were kidnapped. A year after his abduction a Palestinian group by the name of the Abu Nidal, claimed his kidnapping was in response to US air raids on Libya. There was also a video released of a man being hanged, it was claimed to be Collett; but it is not for sure. There have been multiple attempts to locate the body of the journalist, but to no avail. Hopefully, the body they recovered is his.
I think this is crazy, this 64 year old man has been missing for 25 years. That’s an extremely long time for someone to go missing. I also think it’s weird that they kidnapped a man who was 64, but they let the driver go. And since they did let him go, how come he was of no assistance to the case? The article really didn’t talk much about him being any help, but he should’ve been able to give some information. Another thing, he was kidnapped at gun point at an airport…where there is usually tight security, and lots of people around. So did no one see what went on? I just think it’s weird. Maybe the article left out some important points in the story? I don’t know. I just think something is missing in this whole story.
