As drug violence continues to grow in Mexico, more and more women are playing a bigger role than ever before. The women are being recruited for drug smugglers, drug dealers and even foot soldiers. The women are also being jailed and killed for their efforts. Before all this begin to happen, the wives of the drug cartel leaders were viewed as trophies because they had long, rhinestone-studded fingernails and endless surgical enhancements. Today the women are traffickers because they can more easily pass through military checkpoints without suspicion. As the women traffic the drugs, they are also becoming addicted to the drugs. With women trafficking drugs it poses a threat to the family structures of Mexico. The women there are the ones who keep the families together. How can they keep the families together if they are out there smuggling drugs? It surprised to learn that more women are being involved with drug trafficking. For the women, they are considered to be the glue of the family that holds it together. Why would they want to go out and risk being jailed, just for a few hundred dollars? I could not see myself doing that for no amount of money. What also surprised is that the women are given more harsh penalties than men? Why is that, when the men are the ones who are pressuring the women to do it? A lot of questions can be asked, but the real question is can they be answered?
