Food Issues Arising

The commonly known juice drink, POM, is now being sued for having false and unsubstantiated advertisements. The company was sued by the Federal Trade Comission. Although this company is not the first to be in trouble from the government because of unsupported health claims that came along with the advertisment. POM advertises its pomegranate juice and POMx supplements, and says that the juice has 'super health powers' that are capable of treating or preventing prostate cancer and other conditions. This is a problem because it is false leading the people to think that this juice will give you superior health. This company also was advertising these statements that were not approved by the FDA. Food industries often do say things about health in their advertising and they try to portray how the food will be something 'important' to make sure your health is perfect. Heath issues often cause social problems to arise because is something is said to be 'true', then if something is found to be false with the problem then they are upset with the problem and a social issue arises.

I see this drink around all the time when I go to the grocery store. I never knew what was so special about it, I just knew that it was apparently healthy and it is also very expensive. Its bad that they have been making false health claims and advertising statements that were never approved by the FDA. People buy this drink all the time thinking they are preventing cancers and other diseases, when in reality its probably just a regular juice that does not do anything to improve your health.
