"'Slaughterhouse':Somalis killed at food center"
Yesterday, in Mogadishu, Somalia, six citizens were brutally shot dead by a soldiers at a local food center during a food distribution. Somalian, Sharif Haji Hassan, witnessed this horrible raid. He said after families had stood in line for hours at the food center, they rushed the guards and ran with good aid. He saw the guards beating the people with rifle butts, but the guards opened fire shooting into the air and into the crowd. He also witnessed five dead bodies. He was quoted saying "There was a food distribution and some refugees run off with packages and small sacks of food. There was too much blood on the sand, like a slaughterhouse." The sixth victim was a woman who bled to death on her way to the hospital. The district commissioner, Ahmed Meyre Makaran would only confirm one death and three injuries. He also make a public apology, but played the incident off as a mere accident.
This is truly upsetting. People should not have to raid places just to make sure they have food to eat. Also, public authorities should not be abusing their powers and then having someone of higher authority cover for them instead of making them pay for their wrongdoings. I feel much grief for the families of these victims and the people who suffer from poverty in Somalia. I couldn't imagine fearing for my life while trying to get the resources just to live. I couldn't imagine fearing the single people who were placed in society to protect me. I just couldn't imagine.
