Every year 12 million people are diagnosed with cancer. While many of these diagnoses result from genetic triggers many of these cases are cause by unhealthy lifestyle choices. The unhealthy lifestyle choices include things such as eating junk food, smoking, obesity, too much sun exposure, and alcohol intake. These factors have been coined the name non-communicable diseases. The United Nations is holding a summit which many people could be a turning point in raising awareness to fight these unhealthy factors and promote a new way of living. If people all over the world were to take on a healthy change to their everyday life then approximately 2.8 million cancers worldwide could be prevented.
This article suggests that junk food advertisements be limited due to children developing bad habits early on in life. Also, changing prices of Alcohol so that it is not as easy for people to afford and abuse. They go to say that our society is what is encouraging such bad ways and carelessness about what goes into our bodies.
