Obama responds to union challenge on jobs by promising to invest in education
Summary
In President Obama’s address to congress last night it is clear that claim-makers are making their points. Obama is calling upon collective action to create jobs all while investing into our education system. He points out how bad some of our schools are in the statement, “Overcrowded buildings with leaky roofs, faulty electrical systems, and outdated technology are the standard in many communities. These schools were built almost 40 years ago are not place where student can gain a good learning experience. He states that we should increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans and put that money towards putting our teachers back in the school with an income increase. He is right they deserve more for what they do. They are the “people charged with preparing our children for the future” and if that isn’t enough rhetoric to want to start change I can’t think of a better way to get to the Americans hearts
Analysis
I agree, we need action, and we need action RIGHT NOW. It doesn’t make since the wealthiest individuals in our country pay lower taxes than his secretary. Not only does this not make since in that situation, but it’s absurd when the education system takes budget cuts every semester. It is absurd when all kids are afforded the same opportunities in this global society all because we did not take action. As he stated, these are manmade problems so men can fix the problem. Similar to Congo, unions believe we need to invest in overcoming the financial state of the economy, but also the need to invest in our learning environment and teacher conditions. This is global issue, not a personal problem. Obama made some great points and now we only need congress action as well. So maybe we don’t have enough control on how to fix global problem.
