Blog Post #10 Couples Donate 150 Million Dollars to Fight Poverty in Developing Nations

Stanford University will open an institution that focuses on ending poverty in developing nations across the world. The institution is funded by Silicon Valley investor Robert King and his wife Dorothy King. 150 million dollars was donated to fund this institution. They believed that Stanford was the right university to have this institution because of its integrity and exceptional professors and that they could make their money stretch and be more useful than the Kings could do on their own. The institute will teach students in hopes that they will take their skills and learning’s to create programs and business that will help alleviate poverty.

This institute that is being created does not directly help developing nations and will not have an immediate impact on poverty. It only hopes that students taking courses at this institute will use what they learn to alleviate poverty. Alleviating poverty should have a plan that immediately impacts it in a positive way, an impact that shows results and strides of developing a country. The institute has potential to do great things for developing countries in hope of ending poverty but it is not guaranteed that the institute will have a huge impact and it is no time table of when developing countries will see results from this.

I think that even the thought of donating that amount of money to an education program, whether or not its effects will happen immediately is wonderful. I applaud the couple for giving so much to help a cause they are passionate about. If more people made donations like this instead of spending it on material goods, maybe there could be more done for poverty and lacking education.
