Blog #6: Syria regime tanks reportedly enter Homs

The conflict within Syria has reached insurmountable destruction. One of the major cities in Syria, Homs, has been invaded by Syrian tanks. Unfortunately these tanks have been firing upon civilians and revolutionists. Activists reported to the CBS News that the tank regime has begun firing randomly on civilians resulting in hundreds dead. These numbers include not only activists but also women and children. Among the people dead were two Western journalists. The Syrian foreign minister offered condolences but was not forgiving of the incident. The United Nations is developing a list of potential Syrian leaders that will be tried for humanity crimes but it doesn't seem like it will have much affect. The list is proposed to reach even Bashar Assad but experts say that Syria is not a member of the International Criminal Court. It is important that democratic countries not stand for this. The problem that is showing itself is not the Assad regime but a government that is a dictatorship. The world has seen repeated cases of violation of humanity rights by dictator governed countries. A dictatorship places all of the government under one person or a regime's control. There is no room for human rights in a dictatorship therefore the solution of the problem is not to charge the leaders with war crimes, although that is a start, but to deconstruct the dictatorship that has plagued Syria for to long. It is going to require a direct intervention from the democratic countries and the U. N. to end the bloodshed. If the death of more than 500 children is not enough for extreme intervention by the U.N. then the U.N. needs to reevaluate their terms of governance.
