Terminator Technology Blog 5

This week I happened to stumble across an article that spoke about corporations having this so called "terminator" technology. The purpose of it is supposed to stop a plants 2nd germination so that the plant cant be harvested for a 2nd time around. Corporations have created a Genetically Engineered plant seed that can only be planted one time only because they somehow stop the germination. Alot of people around the world actually feel that they are doing this to farmers so that they are making them buy new seeds each and every year. Which of many in the U.S, and around the world such a India cant afford to do. The non supporters feel that they are making poorer farmers more dependent, as this has cause concerned because it has driven some indian farmers to suicide. The supporters of this has said that it will actually protect the corporations from dishonest farmers who would try to keep recycling the seeds for every new harvest, and cause low profits for them. But since protesters around the world have been highly upset about this one of the major donators towards the technology is backing off for awhile until they know how to feel about this decision since all the debating is going on.

This article got to me because at first I thought why dont farmers just use normal seeds instead of G.E (genetically engineered) one's, when I remembered that the G.E seeds are much better in resistance to weather, pest, and over fertilizing. I dont know really how to feel on this subject, but it does seem as if corporations are making poorer farmers more dependent on them. You shouldnt make it economically harder for someone by forcing them to basically use and buy your product every year. Now on the other hand they should have a patent on this type of technology because there are dishonest people out in the world and would try to take advantage of it.
