Palestinians hit by cyber-attack

Internet services in the West Bank and Gaza have come under "sustained attack" by unknown hackers in multiple locations, according to officials. The attack had interrupted services, causing internet connections to range from "very, very slow to completely stopped". The authorities have no idea who the attack is coming from or who may have caused it. The attack came the day after the Palestinians won a symbolically significant victory at Unesco, which voted overwhelmingly on Monday to admit the Palestinian Authority as a full member. The move triggered punitive financial sanctions against the UN agency by the US. After gaining the backing of 107 countries, with 14 voting against and 52 abstaining, the Palestinian leadership is considering membership applications to other global bodies to capitalize on its success. Ibrahim Khraishi, the Palestinian envoy at the UN in Geneva, said other international organizations and UN agencies were now a target.

This can be a very large problem for one, because they do not even know who started this and have no idea who it may be, it could be anyone. If it is this easy to attack internet services in a certain area or country then this person could do just about anything else that they want. Most of the crisis with technology that happen have to do with a virus being spread, a worm, and someone attacking businesses or countries internet sources. Every week there is something new. This mean that countries and businesses need to protect their technology based sources a lot more accurately!

Week #9 Hacker breaches Internet in Sweden!

Over 90,000 private email accounts were released after an anonymous hacker hijacked a twitter account of a MP in Sweden. The hacker tweeted passwords and email details of Sweden political journalists from the account of a twenty-three year old far-right MP named William Perzall, who denies anything to do with the leaks. The hacker has also raided the Swedish blog portal, Bloggtoppen.se. and has accessed more than 90,000 usernames and passwords. These have also now been leaked, making it easy to hack the accounts of well-known politicians, editors and celebrities. The Aftonbladet newspaper also reported that another 57 websites have been compromised, potentially releasing the login details of up to 200,000 people. The hacker is unknown but his online name is: sc3a5j. The hacker did an interview he claimed he did all this to remind people to change their passwords more often. "I dumped this information to let people know that they handle their information wrongly. Many web pages are not up to scratch. And consumers need to know they should never use the same [passwords] for different services on the web. This is how we got into Twitter accounts as well." The interview was obviously done through the internet and not in person due to the fact that he is still unknown.

A story like this gives me great concern on the safety of people’s private information. Nothing is safe on the web, there are always hackers. Whether it is in Sweden or anywhere else it seems that your personal information is never safe. If the online name of this hacker is at least known then why has the police not been able to figure out who is behind all of this? Even though the hacker claims he done this so people would be safer about their accounts, he could do anything he wanted with this information. If he was able to complete such a breach in the internet then he could hack into almost anything in Sweden and cause many problem. This is a great concern.

Blog # 8 New Worm Targets Companies in Europe, Does it Stop Here?

Companies in Europe are being attacked by a very powerful computer worm called Duqu! This worm has very similar characteristics with the virus used to attack Iran’s nuclear program, also known as Stuxnet. Experts believe this worm has been constructed by the same people who made the virus used to attack Iran’s programming. It is believed that U.S and Israel are the one’s responsible for the Stuxnet virus. Duqu was discovered by Symantec, a leading cyber-security firm.   Symantec says the information gathered from Duqu is sent to India but has no indication of who actually created the visus. The names of the Companies that have been attacked were not revealed. Duqu removes itself from the companies systems after 36 days. Symantec believes Duqu is only the first of many and there will be more powerful aggressive virus in upcoming months. Symantec fears that the new string of viruses will become main-stream.

                This can become a severe problem. If theorists are correct and the U.S has a part in this virus and the European Government finds out it could maybe cause a war, or actually make them decide to create their own viruses and try to corrupt our companies. Even if the U.S does not have a part in the virus this can still spread into a large problem. It starts with companies in Europe, but does it stop there? Any other country could be next, and once the virus grows there is no telling what the creators are searching for, or what they will do with the information that they find.

Nokia Cuts Large Amount of Jobs in Factories Everywhere

Nokia plans to get rid of another 3,500 jobs! 2,220 jobs will be lost in Romania due to the factory closure in Cluj.  Back in April Nokia stated they would cut out 4,000 jobs! That is a lot of families going without money. To top it off the NEW cut cost plan got rid of 10,500 jobs! Chief executive Stephen Elop claims, “We are seeing solid progress against our strategy, and with these planned changes we will emerge as a more dynamic, nimble and efficient challenger”.  Nokia had R&D (research and development) sites in Europe, Finland, and Germany. The company had a net loss of 368 million dollars in three months. Net sells fell by 7 percent to 9.3 billion dollars.

As if it was not hard enough to find jobs there will now be even more job losses, not only in America, but in Romania, Europe, Finland, and Germany. There are going to be a lot of families who are going to have to struggle for a while. Any time a major company decides to cut cost many people are left without jobs. This is a global crisis because it affects many people and their families in many different places. After these people lose their jobs they are going to feel the full effect of the economy going down. Nokia is not able to keep up with other major companies so this is why they have to cut cost and fire many individuals. So because of these competitions between major phone companies many people will suffer.

Blog #4 Facebook and Twitter have new rival, GOOGLE!

Google officially has a social networking site! The site is called Google+. They have a 12 week invitation trial that hsa already attracted 20 millions members. Google has now become one of the main sources in internet access, I cannot name all the things you are capable of doing by using google. Facebook has 800 million active users and Twitter now has over 100 million users. Google has definatly made a mark in competition. Unlike having "friends" on facebook and "followers" on twitter Google+ has "circles". This means you can control how widely your posts are shown. This means that you can either have posts viewed publicly to everyone, one friend, all friends, family memebers, it is all your choice. Google+ also allows you to make your posts as long as you want them, you have an unlimited amount of word space. You can video chat on Google+,  record and broadcast videos, and even complete tasks with friends.

Google+ may be the next big thing! When both facebook and twitter came out it took a while for people to start trying out the websites and move away from the formaly used social networking site, myspace. The simple amount of 20 million may soon turn into 200 million. Once the word is out more about this new website people may fall in love with it. Google is already widely used so it may not take very long for this new networking program to become a blow out! But just as easily as it can be great it can also fail. People may decide they do not like Google+ and decide to stick with their twitter and facebook accounts. But only time will tell the greatness of the new Google+.

Blog # 2 NEW IPHONE 5 LAUNCH!!!!!

We have all seen how amazing and handy the iphones have been. It seems that everytime a lot of people have gotten the lastest model of the iphone they come out with a new model! Well just like everytime the new iphone 5 will be ready to introduce october 5th according to the apple company. Supposedly the new iphone is going to me more simpler and easier to handle than the previous iphone 4. The iphone 4 was about to attack china's largest market since it was claimed the best selling smartphone since June 2010. Rumors say that the iphone 5 will have a slightly larger screen than the iphone 4 and will have a NFC (near field communication) chip which will allow oline payment services. In fear of losing contracts with apple component makers in the far east keep the launch of the new iphone in secrecy. Apple is valued at 387.1 billion dollars, more than likely most of this has come from the very successful sells of the iphone series.

I myself do not own a iphone, but I do know many people that do have them. In my opinion the iphone is great and can help with many different things so I am excited for the upcoming launch of the iphone 5. I feel that there are going to be many new apps to the new iphone series that people will enjoy. Technology has come a very long way and the iphone series are a great example of this. Sales for the new iphone 5 will probably be the biggest yet, but of course Apple with continue to come out with new series, before we know it there will be an iphone 10!

Blog # 1 Street fighting rages in Tripoli

Street battle are raging in Tripolo as  Muammar Gaddafi (autocratic leader of Libya for 42 years) vowed to fight to death. His supporters fought with a rearguard campaign using snipers, mortars, and rockets to try at another attempt to stop rebel forces from getting a grip on the Libyan capital. Rebels celebrated their capture of the regime's stronghold at Bab al-Aziziya and were overcome by heavy fire from an pro-Gaddafi area. Rebels were infested with snipers.Gaddafi supporters aslo fired on the road leading to the Tropoli airport. Rebels reveal that 400 people have been killed and 2,000 injured so far in the battle for Tripoli so far. At the rebel-held town of Misrata they were fired upon by missiles coming from the coastal city or Sirte. On a pro-Gaddafi radio station broadcast the deposed leader claimed he had "discreetly" toured the capital and "did not feel that Tripoli was in danger". He reportedly said that the retreat from his citadel at Bab al-Aziziya had been a tactical move and vowed to fight to the death, calling on his supporters to "cleanse" Tripoli of "devils and traitors".

Too many people in the world have a war going on each and every day. There is always a leader who just wants to take over more land or government and then there is the country who is trying to protect themselves. In this battle many individuals have died either because they are following their leader or because they have different believes and have become rebels. No matter where you go there is always fighting whether it be a simple fight, a battle, or even a war. While this battle is going on there are still families in this country and businesses and there is still the economy as a whole that needs to be taken care of. Global violence is a very wide issue but is probably one of the most important. If the soldiers and leaders are out fighting or worrying about a war then who is taking care of the people?
