Funded by the Us Agency for International Development, Civic managers from seven “mega cities” will meet in Calcutta, India for the Best Practice Symposium. The Municipal commissioner said that “The symposium, organized by the Mega City Association, will act as a platform for the civic administrators to hold result-oriented talks on urban issues and policy changes.” The Mega City Association was formed to organize meetings and gatherings like this to collaborate on urban restoration. It is said that Calcutta Leaders will present papers on raising funds for facility upgrade by selling civic land at market rates. While other leaders like, Ahmedabad’s are expected to present a paper on the development of the riverfront, and Mumbia and Delhi will deal with solid waste management. The first quartley newsletter was said to be released at the symposium.
This information presented in this article wasn’t in great detail about the meeting. I do however like the fact that leaders from the seven mega-cities will all be present in the same facility collaborating on the same issue at hand. I think it would be a good idea for the representatives present at the meeting, to talk about the different problems and solutions urbanization presents. I like the fact that Mumbia and Delhi are focusing on waste management because it will definitely create a problem as population continues to rise. I do hope that the newsletter will be released to more information will hopefully arise more solutions.
