Underground Railroad Homes
Our economy is getting so extremely bad that people are losing their homes left and right. Families have no jobs; therefore they can’t pay the rent or make the moorage. In Miami people are moving into vacant homes just to have a safe place to sleep. A lady that calls herself Queen Omega moved into a house where she paid for internet, water and electricity, and she even introduced herself to the neighbors. She forgot to mention to them that she was living in the house illegally. People are really trying to get involved and help these families on the streets. In Minnesota they have a group called the Poor Peoples Human Rights and they are moving families into vacant homes. Groups like this one say that they’re tired of seeing empty houses when they’re so many families with no place to stay.
I know that my dad is in real estate and he can definitely but homes that have been foreclosed for cheap. Then when he gets them fixed up and is ready to sell them nobody is trying to buy them. This economic slump has really hurt him as a realtor. He said that nobody can afford to buy homes right now, that everyone is afraid to. I agree with him and with the article things are getting really bad. I also agree with the point that the article makes. Why let people stay on the streets when they’re homes available to stay in. Now I’m not saying let some homeless bum stay in the homes, but families who have lost their homes due to the economy I agree with. Whenever someone is ready to buy the house then of course the people would have to get out, but I look at it as a way of helping people get back on their feet. The article said that the groups that help these people call themselves the Underground Railroad and I couldn’t agree with a better name than that!
