On Wednesday January 19th, the Chrysler group and the Environmental Protection Agency said that they will be working together to develop a new hydraulic hybrid vehicle. The E.P.A. first developed a workable hydraulic hybrid powered train, the trains now are up and running capable of haling more weight than normal trains and also use less energy. In a normal vehicle an engine that powers a hydraulic pump delivers either gasoline or diesel to an accumulator, this generates fluid pressure building up to pressure of 5000 pounds per square inch. This pressure then powers the hydraulic motor that powers the wheels. The batteries in these cars can also be recharged by driving in reverse. They have two designs in mind as they are making these hydraulic cars. The first one is a parallel; in this both the hydraulic motor and the engine drive the wheels. Though a serial design only the hydraulic motor is the driving force. “According to Nick Cappa, a Chrysler spokesman, the hydraulic hybrid minivan that is being developed will have a series design.” They are using a four-cylinder gas engine to power this car, the E.P.A. said the fuel –efficiency for this car will increase by 30-35 percent, with a 60 percent increase for city driving. Though a conflict occurred for the US government, who is a Chrysler shareholder, was not addressed in which the government has not shown an interest in entering the partnership. The new hydraulic engine for cars will be a great idea and great new installment into new cars. This will certainly help people with fuel economy as gas prices continue to constantly rise. These new cars coming out are great as newer technology comes out for better energy output, and will constantly be updated making it better and better each time.
