Canadian Terror Suspect to Fight Extradition to US

Summary: Faruq Khalil Muhammad ‘Isa, also known as Sayfildin Tahir Sharif, a Canadian citizen and Iraqi national is a terror suspect accused of conspiring to kill Americans abroad. Muhammad ‘Isa is linked to a suicide bombing that killed five U.S. soldiers as well as the plotting of another suicide bombing. U.S. prosecutors were fighting for the defendant’s extradition to the U.S. to face charges of conspiring to kill Americans and also providing materials to support the terrorists. He was arrested in Edmonton, Alberta on Wednesday after a U.S. warrant had been issued. This was a joint investigation by the FBI’s New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Tunisian authorities. Muhammad ‘Isa was a long-distance conspirator for Tunisian jihadists in Iraq advising them in chains of messages to kill “dog Americans” with suicide bombings. Muhammad ‘Isa was linked to a suicide truck bombing outside the U.S. base of Mosul on April 10, 2009 using wiretaps and other methods. Muhammad ‘Isa was captured on tape the day after the bombing of the American soldiers discussing the attack with one of his Iraqi-based associates.
Analysis: I have to admit, I chose this particular article because of a particular favoritism I have. I was born and raised in Canada for 11 years of my life, and now that I live in North Carolina, I am a bit out of touch with what is really happening in Canada. I chose this article to-in a way-maintain contact with my homeland. At one point in this article Muhammad ‘Isa said that he too hoped to die as a martyr in Iraq. “Even if I can’t work over there, I can work here.” I believe that Faruq Khalil Muhammad ‘Isa is attempting to stir up trouble in a country that continuously remains neutral throughout most political and global situations. I also believe that he is trying to stay off of American radar by living in Canada because he did have a hand in killing 5 American soldiers. However, I do not know any of this for certain. This is just my personal opinion.
