Blog 4 Child Prostitution

Child prostitution is an international problem.  In some cultures though, prostitution is tradition.  For example, India has statistics of 20 million young girls being forced to participate in child prostitution, ages 12-17.  The fathers and brothers even sale the young girls.  They think that once they are old enough to please a man they should be involved.  The girls want help, they want to get an education and not support their families by these wages.  This is a global problem because this is how trafficking of women began.  It makes countries like the US who do not even have these taboos, become the consumers.  Sociologists have been noted to blame this on the low standard of living.
CNN and many other organizations are trying to fight back and bring safety to these young women.  Plan India is an organization trying to help by doing things like putting up more schools so they can focus on education and they are providing counseling.  Too many countries are involved so it will take more than just Help India to get the situation under control.  Russia, Brazil, and Canada are some more just to name a few.  For places like India where child prostitution has been a part of tradition for years, it is not about ethnocentrism and thinking how our culture is better because we do not agree.  It is about saving these young girls who do not want to be apart.  In the article they say that they hope their kids never have to go through this.  They see it is wrong and need help to overcome the men of their country.
