Blog 1: Mexico’s Drug War Bloodies Areas Thought Safe

The country of Mexico is experiencing loads of violence due to the drug war that is going on within the country. The violence continues to worsen as days pass. Authorities as well as citizens are shaken up about all the violence and want it to be laid to rest. Just last week a couple of headless bodies were found in a minivan near a mall entrance in plain sight. Last year Guadalajara and Veracruz had several bodies slain and these cities were considered to be safe. This violence is occurring because of a Turf War that is going on between two big drug communities. Mexico has called on the United States for help because the country no longer knows how to stop the fatalities from happening. The president of Mexico may not be able to hold his spot as president because he has not done enough to stop the violence. Therefore, his own people are turning on him. Over the past six years this drug war has left over 47,000 people dead. Mexico military and police officials are stepping in to take control and try to put an end to the drug trafficking.

I believe this is a big issue for Mexico and the government is trying to put an end to the issue quickly, but just as it did not start over night, this problem will not end over night. The president is in a bad position because he now has people turning on him because they do not feel he was doing his job. Since him being elected in 2000 he has not done enough to put an end to the violence. I feel that now he is up for re-election he is really trying to buckle down on the issue. Although violence has calmed down in some of the bordering cities, as the article states, this has become a competition of which drug group can shed the most blood. An end should have been put to this a while ago.
