Blog 2: Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a international crime. Jamaica kicked off a two day seminar on human trafficking lead by the OCID. This seminar will hopefully put a dent in the human trafficking crimes.  In Jamaica, they will be going around to schools, churches, and other organizations to help make the public aware of this horrible crime and warn them on some of the red flags of human trafficking.  They will especially be warning children because children can easily become victims. Also they will be warning them of online predators who might lure the children into activities that they never thought they would do. Some red flags of human trafficking are: being paid below minimum wage, bad work conditions, not having control over your own movement, and inhumane conditions. Human trafficking is human slavery. Human trafficking gets about $32 billion per year worldwide. 10 to 30 million people are victims of human trafficking.

Human trafficking is a global social issue. It is a crime that should not be taken lightly. Human trafficking is the modern day slavery. Tons of people are sexually exploited and/or forced into labor. Children can easily get sucked into this crime. I am glad that this article was written. It is important that more people are aware of what is going on in the world. This is a international problem. People need to be aware of the red flags of human trafficking so hopefully they can prevent themselves from getting into it. Human trafficking needs to be stopped and hopefully this conference will help put a dent in it.
