Blog #2: Perils of Pregnancy: Obesity and Advanced Age

The number one health condition that affects pregnancy is obesity. This is the reason for a lot of pregnancy complications and other risks. Being obese causes a lot of women to have smaller babies, pre-term labor, airway problems, and complications during C-sections. Another thing that women are doing is delaying childbirth. Older women are now getting pregnant, which can also be very dangerous and risky. They tend to have more chronic medical illnesses like high blood pressure and diabetes. Another problem that can arise from being obese is that it can be hard to get a good quality image in a sonogram. This is dangerous because doctors can miss important data.

More and more women around the world are getting obese. Fast food and high technology is not just a thing of the United States. Places like Europe and some parts of Asia are following America’s trend of the sedentary lifestyle, which causes many serious complications for childbirth. I think it’s important for people to maintain active and healthy lifestyles. Not only will that help a women stay healthy, but it’ll also result in healthier babies. Nowadays many people around the world are delaying their pregnancy until later years. This is not recommended because it can lead to a lot of complications. High technology makes this possible for women, but it’s not natural for older women to be able to have babies. Overall, I think that women should keep the traditional norms of having a baby in their mid 20s to early 30s and maintain a healthy weight.
