Blog 12 Biofuel powered aircraft set to fly

The adaptation of bio fuels to change the future.  Recent technological advances has lead to research of bio fuels to be used with in aircraft.   Canada a nation once seen as a step behind the rest of the world in the search for alternative types of energy have come up with a way to get there aircraft to run on a 50/50 blend of algae cabbage created bio fuel and regular jet fuel, so fare test have been going well, From advanced maneuvers such as dead falls, to stalls to all types of fuel testing to prove that it is a good substitute.  And the search for a new substitute is in need, because with the recent hike in fuel prices has reflected upon tick prices in airlines and if something can be used to light the blow so be it.  the future test will be latter this month weather or not it holds up with passengers.  
I my self am very glad to see that new uses for bio-fuels are being found.  Back a few weeks ago the test with the US Naval fleet and now aircraft hopefully the world will start to making the shift to the new renewable type of fuel. And we can start paying less for fuel.  The article stated that the world is changing and the shift to newer fuels is being made but it stated that this new technology is pricey and will need to come down in order to change the world, my view is, is that if we are out of fuel and we need it price is not an option but hopefully that will change for the best, and the world will continue to keep on shining.

Blog # 10 The Military’s Commitment to Biofuels and Alternative Energy Is a National Security Imperative, BIO Says

The time is coming when the world will need to wake up and realize that, we can run off of  finite fuel supplies of the past.  And if we do it could be the Achilles heel to some nations.  As the US's Military seems to think.   The article created by Business Wire, states that the US currently relying on foreign fuel to fuel there vessels, is at the mercy of the controllers of those fuel fields.  And if they wanted to they could cut off the supply, and hurt the United States entire nation.  Gas and oil Prices are at an record high, the Pentagon states and we need to start moving to the idea of using bio Fuels, and quit relying on foreign suppliers.   Yes the transition to bio fuels would be costly and are at the moment costly to produce, but with the advance to the future, things change and recent study are showing ways to produce it cheaper.   With the new fuel will come change, currently every branch of the US's Military has now put forth some notion to Alternative fuels.  Now only time will tell if the switch will be made.
As my self i am very glad to see that the US Government is doing something about the fuel crises, it is time we start using and finding new ways to fuel Nation.  Because i my self am starting to see trend with the current fuel we have, it seeks to me that we are at a turning point where every body is fighting for the same fuel, and i agree with the idea that we are at a big risk having of supply of energy be in another nation, the research for bio fuels is great, now only if we can do it on a larger scale, an dfinally do away with the problem of raising gas prices.

Blog # 9 US Navy sails 1,200 miles on algae biofuel

The fuel of the future time and time again seems to be bio fuels.  Although unnoticed by some political officials currently running for the next 2012 election,  Bio fuels are the way of the  future, particularly bio fuel derived from algae.  The evidence lies with in the US Navy's recent test using a 50/50 blend of the stuff.   The Navy has devised a test of one of there navel vessels, using this new blend.  The test lasted 17 hours, and according to the ships crew it showed no signs of difference between the control, (using the regular fuel).  The Navy's spokes person Solazyme, said that there was no difference between the new bio fuel and the standard fuel, he then went on to talk about testing the new fuel on other types of vessels, some large and small.  My opinion is that having these new fuels will hopefully put a dampen on things and run prices down.  But my concerns are that this article hit and ran with the political portion of the article, and in order for any type of major movement for this type of technology to other areas, will require political acknowledgment.  but hopefully that the global use of this fuel in the Navy's fleet will start changing the world.

Blog # 8 WHAT'S NEXT?: Sources of renewable energy are as old as the sun and wind, but how viable are they?

The world runs on the majority of fossil fuels, coal natural gas, petroleum etc. But what happens when that supply of fossil fuels becomes fainter and fainter, but the demand becomes bigger and bigger.  That going to be the future we will live in if we don't start finding newer better renewable type of energy.  With an increase for demand of fossil fuels, the fighting for fuel if you will drives the price up, areas such as China, India, Europe, and the US all are in this give me, give me, give me, debate.  When these forms of energy are gone the would might just be dark, except for small areas that have the ability to use renewable sources of energy.  Luckily for the US we have at least set up a plan, to be some what prepared?  Currently more than 80% of the US's energy production comes from fossil fuels, and the other 20 or so percent come from other renewable type of energy, such as solar, wind, nuclear, and hydro power.  The US has a plan, currently moving into affect is the Public Act 295 of 2008,  which requires, that every major energy company have at least 10% of all energy produced be renewable.

I believe this is Good and Bad, in the fact that, yes we are running out of options for energy and once its gone its gone.  The research and development of newer type of energy is the best thing this nation could be doing for its self.  It would bring more jobs, and really boost the economy.  But at first i believe this is going to come with a price, you always need somebody to lean on to get off the ground and with out that this will never work.  The article goes on to state that the US is changing but changing slowly, and the effects can be seen.  But for the sake of the future, it will all depend on weather not we put froward the effort, to change the world.

Blog # 7 2011 saw record levels of renewable energy investment – uncertainty for 2012

The year 2011 was a good year, things were improving at least from an energy stand point.  Multiple countries started down the great path to renewable energy,  and the world is improving.  This article states that countries around the world have started implementing new alternative sources of energy, or are going to be.  Countries such as Asia, Africa, India, Germany, and the United Kingdom are in the process of making the switch.  They are each implementing there own form of alternative renewable energy. The use of solar power, wind power and nuclear plants are becoming more and more relevant.  This boost from the past year, as the article states, was very good and very positive for the world economy.  But not much has been said about this following year, will the year 2012 be just as beneficial, or even better, or will it decline?  I my self am very glad to see that the world is starting to realize that the finite fuels we've used in the past are starting to run out, or are getting very pricey, and harder to produce.  Its great to see that the world has started the transfer to alternative/renewable energy. Now as for the year to come only time will tell, the future is unwritten, and its up to us to do the writing.  What i would really like to see happen is the world unite for the greater good to help do away with the problems of the past.  So its all up to us to brighten the future, and weather or not we do is up to us.

Blog # 6 Renewable energy vs coal and diesel

The time is coming when the world will be out of fossil energy, and if something isn't done we'll be in the dark ages.  The world lives off of finite fuels such as coal, and oil, and what will happen when it's all gone are at very limited supply?  In the article, it discusses that we need to be looking for and using renewable sources of energy.  Energy Sources such as, solar and hydro-power, but what about fuel for cars or transportation?  The article seem to state that the answer to these problems is the production of bio-fuels, from the crops.  Crops are very renewable, and can produce new fuel alternatives for finite fuel supply's.  But the problem that arises is that if you start converting crops to fuel, that would be used for food, then what do you do for food?  The production of crops for food and and fuel would take place and which would out weight the other?  The article states that we would be reluctant to switch because first of all the world is has a limited food supply as it is, and then to convert things to run these new fuels would require, more work than one my want to put forth, when at the moment its cheaper to put a fossil fuel into what ever it is and run it that way.  I think that this is great, and that using alternative uses for fuel and renewable resources, is the way of the future.  But the problem is that i see is, its going to take something really drastic to get people of the world involved in this.  All is good when the price for fuel goes down, what if the price in food goes up?  On a side note, for the world this will be a problem, but for the US, i think its time that we start eating less, and mabey if we can do that alot of things will start to work out for the good.  So over all the need for alternative, renewable resources is great, but what if it comes with a price?

Blog # 5 After the Coal Plants Close, Where Will the U.S. Get Cheap Electricity?

Is the time of cheap energy coming to an end,  according to Mark J. Morabito of the Cross hair Energy Corporation he seems to thinks so.  According to his article there is the beginning of a trend in abandoning energy project in the united states.  The article states that BP one of the nations Big contributes of energy will be shutting down 68 out of  600 of its coal facility s, due to negative Economic Effects.  And along with this BP will be pulling out of its 40 year venture of solar energy as well.  The reason why is that due to the economic perspectives and out comes of the future, have caused investors to pull the plug on funding for these such items.  And what this means four our future, is we will have to start, finding alternative sources of fuels Faster than we currently are, or will end up paying more for our energy that is imported from different parts of the world.
I my self am very concerned wit this, because at the moment we are the verge of not even being able to pay for this so called ''Cheap Energy''.  And what this is going to do to the other part of the world, the article stated that Natural gas will take on the load for a while but at the moment, we export a good number of Natural gas to other nations, and what do you think might happen if we were to slow or stop or even raise the exportation of this natural gas to other nation?  The closing of coal plants and solar facility's is a big, big problem for the US, The solution shouldn't be pulling the plugs it should be Plugging More in to it.  So only time will tell whether or the US will have to pay to play.

Blog # 4 Americans Gaining Energy Independence With U.S. as Top Producer

This article states that with in the past 20 years the US is finally closing in on being the largest exporter of energy in the world.  And although The US might not be exporting as much crude oil as it would like, it makes up for the amount of Natural Gas that it has.  Being the top exporter of energy is a goal that the US has been trying to obtain for more than 40 years ever since the 1970's when an Arab oil embargo triggered a recession and which then led to lines at gasoline stations. But one might not have seen this or ever know until now due to lack of publicity and lack of an energy crisis.   The US is exporting 22.4 trillion cubic feet of natural Gas, compared to Oil that exports 5.7 million barrels a day.  The US Department of energy, is also at this moment in the process of moving facility's to take advantage the natural gas, and moving facility in to new areas such as Louisiana, and North Dakota.  Later on in the article it talks about how the Arab Oil embargo in the 1970's, affected this nation and how we are now still reliant upon them for oil, and that they are or will be reliant upon us for natural gas.  And with this new uprising of the US as a head energy exporter will bring over 1.6 million new jobs to areas like Mississippi, North Dakota.  For the most part I am glad to see that the US is doing something in the world, other than being a massive consumer.  Which means that we still have some kick left in this old horse.  The article brings new ideas and hope to a nation that really needs it at this point and time, but i just hope that something is actually done and can be seen by the American people.  If not it might be a scary thing to say we are the best and we are doing this, and that, but with out evidence?  The down side to this article would have to be the lack of information about what this new export giant is doing to help Americans at the pump.  It talks about how he Arab Oil embargoes in the 1970's hurt Americans at the pump and are still hurting them to this day,  but the article lack information about new technology and such that would help us benefit form this commodity.  Its one thing to have all of this gas but its another to have it all and know how to use it.

Blog # 3 NASA Study Says Global Energy Is Out Of Balance 02/03/11

In this article, NASA goes on to state how the imbalance of solar radiation in, and radiation out has been, and is being affected by global warming.  Which in NASA's word is more evidence that Greenhouse gasses are the driving force for global warming.  NASA held a study that looked at the differences in amounts of radiation coming from the sun and the amount that's reflected back into space.  And according to NASA officials the imbalance is positive, which means the radiation from the earth isn't going back into space but in turn getting reflected back on to the earth, by the mean of Greenhouse gasses.  The data was gathered by using a network of over 3,000 floating monitoring devices which NASA has named Argo and along with ground data and satellite data to help make up this conclusion.
      I believe that what NASA is doing is good,  the public needs to here about these things,  and hopefully that there is more information like this to come.  The world needs to wake up and under stand that every time you use your car, turn on a light, or any of the such, your are influencing the environment, and now we have the proof.  It good to see that NASA is doing something at this point an time.  This article stated the proof of the problem bu then lacks the information about what is actually being done about it.

Blog # 2 Energy Gauntlet, Energy and Technology, Kevin Cothren, 1/27/2012

Obama tosses energy gauntlet

                This article in The Advertiser was about Obama proposing the plan of off-shore drilling off the gulf coast of new Mexico, and the search for alternative fuels such as natural gas,  all in order to help aid in his energy agenda.  Obama quotes "We need an all-out, all-in, all-of-the-above strategy that develops every source of American energy — a strategy that's cleaner and cheaper and full of new jobs".  He also announced new plans to bring the nation, in to a cleaner and greener future, with the aids of natural gas power cars and the lease of oil rich parcels that were once owned and put forth by the President Bush administration for off shore drilling.  The reason why the drilling plans have not come sooner, is because of the multiple environmental disasters that have occurred in the area, for example Hurricane Katrina and The BP oil spill.  Which has caused much debate over restarting the the project of drilling in the gulf coast.  Whats to come of this issue is unseen at the moment,  but according to the article it seems that it could be just what President Obama needs to win his reelection.   As my self i am glad that we are starting to open up old/new oil fields.  But i believe that new safety measures need to be taken in to affect, because if we have another oil spill it wont just be our problem it will be the cost of Mexico's problem along with any other Caribbean/Gulf island.  But really, im getting kinda tired of paying 3.50+ for a single gallon of gas, and hopefully this will help lower that cost.  Obama also stated that it would bring a whole new slue of jobs to the area, which is a very good thing in this current economy.  And with his plans of new domesticated energy sources such as natural gas,  hopefully we can strafe away from the need of foreign oil.  But unfortunately the rest of the article pertains information on the political debate of who will run for president this year.  All i know is if Obama can get this plan off the ground and get more money in to my pocket at the pump he'll git my vote this year.

Blog #1: Energy Efficiency, Technology and Energy, Kevin Andrew Cothren

 The search for a greener future,  this article is the example of global change to the future in it they talk about how on separate occasions many different areas have done there part to reduce the amount of energy they use to heat there homes and businesses.  In one occasion, the case of  Libby, Mont. a small town on the verge of being whipped of the map due to poverty and lack of jobs,  make an astounding comeback due to the creation of ductless heat pumps, is now striving.  Along with, the USA and other nations are in the Kilowatt Crack-down, to help same energy, time and money.  I think that this is a good thing, because sooner later we are all gonna have to stop relying on Oil to fuel our world.  When when run out which we will and soon, we will need to have a back up in place or else we will be in deep trouble.  a few things that i thought the article could have talked more about is how this will help us out in the future. and i would have liked to have herd more about the global search for the kilowatt crack-down.  But this article leans more to the economic side of things and how it influences the people. In the end i am glad that the world knows that were are in trouble, and something needs to be done.
