Chad Soldiers Block Flight From Capital

Catherine McDuffie February 7, 2008, 1:18pm, Global Crime

Fierce fighting between rebels and governments has been an on going problem all over the world, and, now, most noticeably in Africa. The country of Chad is no different as extreme fighting is the nation’s capital has broken out. France, the former colonial power over Chad, has agreed to help the government with fighting and has begun to send French troops to the small country. The biggest part of the conflict comes from the rebels accusing the government officials of corruption and embezzling money from the country’s oil production. Hundreds of civilians have died, most from bullet wounds, and over a thousand are injured. Chad is home to thousands of Sudanese Refugees; however the Chad government accuses the Sudan government for aiding the rebels in Chad and also accuses them of preventing a European peacekeeping force from entering the war-torn area. France is the biggest contributor to the force in Chad as it makes up 2,100 of its 3,700 soldiers. If the EU would join up and help France, the rebellion would end; however the EU continues to delay deploying troops.

I think it is such a shame that France sees the urgency and benefit of helping Chad, yet the European Union does not. The article states that if the EU sent in troops the rebels would be pushed back, but have not done so because of lack of equipment and now because of the fighting that is taking place. I fear so much for countries of the world who face problems such as these, because the fighters just continue to breed hatred and the governments are so corrupt. I do not know what it will take for problems like this to end worldwide, but I hope whatever it takes, it will appear soon and peace will start to become tangible to these war torn communities and people.

What if the rebels have legitimate concerns? I don't think fighting is the answer, but then again my rights have not been abrogated int he way theirs have been. Sarkozy has come under a serious backlash with regard to his decision to support the Chad government against the rebels. If democracy is the "best" form of government, and democracy consists of government by the people, then what type of government advocates killing its people and branding them "rebels" rather than listening to and addressing their greivances? Just because someone is fighting the establishment does not make them wrong. In fact, most ideological traditions that are the most revered in the West began as rebellions, almost always violent, against the establishment.

I'm impressed, I must say. Seldom do I come across a blog that's both equally
educative and amusing, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.
The problem is something that not enough people are speaking
intelligently about. I am very happy I found this in my hunt for
something regarding this.
